With the aim of developing a more skilled Australian workforce, the Commonwealth Government offers a number of financial incentives to encourage employers to offer skilled based training to their employees.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INCENTIVES


INCENTIVES

Certificate II Certificate III, IV Selected Diploma or Advanced Diploma
Commencement Incentive: Employers are entitled to a financial incentive when an employee commences an Apprenticeship or Traineeship $1250 $1500 $1500
Apprentice Kickstart Incentive: 
Available to employers who commence an Australian Apprentice who is aged 19 years and under between 1 December 2009 and 28 February 2010 in a qualification leading to a traditional trade Occupation.  Also available to Australian School Based Apprentices and Trainee Apprentices.  This is in addition to standard commencement incentives.

Completion Incentive: Available on successful completion of an Apprenticeship/Traineeship. $0 $2500 $2500
Recommencement Incentive:  Where an employee is recommencing a Trade Apprenticeship, the employer may be entitled to a recommencement incentive. $0 $750 $750
Securing Australian Apprenticeships Recommencement Bonus:  Where an employee is recommencing an Apprenticeship in a qualification identified on the skills shortage list, the employer may be entitled to this bonus. Available until 31 December 2010. $0 $1800 $1800
Securing Australian Apprenticeships Completion Bonus:  Available to employers who have an apprentice who successfully completes their apprenticeship in a qualification identified on the skills shortage list.  Available until 31 December 2010. $0 $1000 $1000
Rural & Regional Commencement Incentive: Available in addition to the Standard Commencement Incentive for Rural and Regional Apprentices completing an apprenticeship in identified skill needs occupations. $0 $1000 $0
Innovation Commencement Incentive: Available to employer’s of apprentices undertaking an eligible innovation apprenticeship/traineeship.  This is in addition to standard Commencement incentive. $0 $1100 $0
Australian School-based Apprenticeships Commencement incentive: Commencement incentive is available to employers who employ an Australian Apprentice in an endorsed school-based apprenticeship. $750 $750 $750
Australian School-based Apprenticeships Retention incentives: Retention incentive is available to employers who continue to employee an apprentice after they have completed Year 12. $750 $750 $750
Declared Drought Areas Additional Commencement Incentive: Available to employers of Apprentices who hold a current Exceptional Circumstances Drought Area Certificate. $1500 $0 $0
Declared Drought Areas Additional Completion Incentive: Available to employers of Apprentices who hold a current Exceptional Circumstances Drought Area Certificate. $1500 $0 $0
Mature Aged Worker Commencement Incentive: Available to employer of a disadvantaged Apprentice who is over the 45 years of age. Contact us for eligibility criteria. $750 $750 $750
Mature Aged Worker Completion Incentive: Available to employer of a disadvantaged Apprentice who is over the 45 years of age. Contact us for eligibility criteria. $750 $750 $750
Support for Adult Australian Apprentices: Available for mid career workers aged 25 years at the time of commencement on or after 1 January 2010 who are upgrading their skills through an apprenticeship in a trade occupation in high demand. This subsidy may be paid to the employer or the apprentice depending on award arrangements. Those apprentices who were previously receiving the Support for Mid-Career Apprentices payment will now transfer to receive this payment.  Contact us for further information. $0 1st Year:

Assistance for Australian Apprentices with Disability: Additional incentives may be available for those employers who employ an apprentice with a disability. Contact us for further information.

NSW GOVERNMENT INCENTIVES

Paid Training for New Entrants: All new entrants who have commenced employment may be entitled to Government funding where all or part of their formal training is paid for. Contact us for eligibility information

Exemption from Worker’s Compensation Premiums: Employers are able to receive worker’s Compensation Exemption for their Apprentice.

Payroll Tax Rebates: Employers may be eligible for a rebate on the payroll tax paid to Apprentices and Trainees. The rebates are offered through The Office of State Revenue (OSR).
